Emergencies or accidents creep up without warning. It could happen to someone on the road, someone in your office
or you, for that matter. Though prevention is better than cure, it does no harm to arm yourself with vital information regarding how to cope up with these emergencies. Act now, before it is too late.
Emergency: Heart Attack
If someone has a heart attack there are only a few
minutes to act before it is too late. It is very much essential to know
what to do beforehand. To perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
and artificial respiration (mouth to mouth resuscitation) effectively,
training and frequent practice on resuscitation dummies are essential.
Now, what to to do if a person starts to choke. It is best not to do anything if the person is coughing badly and with full force and not turning a bluish color. Ask him or her "Are you choking?" If the person is able to answer you by speaking, then it is the case of partial airway obstruction. It's better to stay with the person and encourage him or her to cough until the obstruction is cleared.
Do not give the person anything to drink because fluids may take up space needed for the passage of air.
